Social Change
Through our Social Change efforts Breaking Free assist the community to recognize that prostitution is not an “adult onset” problem and that prostitution is a systematic issue rooted in oppression, abuse, and racism ARE the most significant issues to address the major challenges faced as BF advances it’s mission internally and externally. Other challenges include factors that limit our services and the necessary resources BF needs to help all in need of our program or services.
Prostituted women and girls continue to face the most significant barriers and challenges. These women face a myriad of extenuating circumstances including responsibility for young children, lack of training, limited technology/ computer skills, lack of transportation or housing, and lack of stabilizing life skills that keep them with feelings of hopelessness and despair and many believe there’s no hope of a prosperous future. Many women need encouragement and training to access jobs that pay enough for life’s basic essentials, especially computer and technology skills.
