Breaking Free is a Saint Paul-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering survivors of sex trafficking and exploitation while advocating for systemic change. Initially a grassroots initiative, Breaking Free quickly became a beacon of hope in marginalized communities by providing essential services like group support and housing assistance. Our comprehensive services include Sisters of Survival Support Group, offering a safe space for survivors to connect and heal together. Additionally, Breaking Free offers permanent housing for clients and conducts direct street outreach to find those affected by trafficking and gender-based violence, ensuring that all survivors receive the support they need.
Breaking Free remains committed to empowering survivors and transforming communities through its survivor-driven approach. Recognizing the importance of inclusivity, Breaking Free has expanded its model to embrace intersectionality, ensuring comprehensive support for survivors from diverse backgrounds.
Current initiatives include sponsoring global forums and spearheading innovative programs to train law enforcement in survivor-centered approaches. Breaking Free's dedication to survivor empowerment is evident in its inclusive advocacy, leadership, and governance structures, ensuring that survivors' voices shape every aspect of its work.
As Breaking Free continues to evolve, it remains steadfast in its commitment to driving systemic change and fostering a more equitable society free from exploitation. Together with survivors, allies, and partners, Breaking Free envisions a future where every individual can live with agency, autonomy and freedom from violence.
